Happy Tongue sizes 125 - 150 (we can order other sizes)
All of these bits work well with the Micklem bridle.
I really like the combination of Happy Tongue and the Micklem bridle. They work brilliantly for horses that don't like tongue pressure. If you are unsure if your horse has tongue pressure issues and you have a Micklem bridle, you can put on the bit clips which I find is a good diagnostic tool. If your horse/pony goes better then they could have tongue pressure issues.
The Loose Ring Happy Tongue is a great bit for a horse shaking its head. Bombers created this bit for horses who shake their head when bit pressure is applied.
The Eggbutt Happy Tongue prevents pinching of the lips and gives a slightly more solid feel against the side of the face. It also prevents the bit being pulled through the mouth. The release is slower and also introduces some poll pressure.
The Full CheekHappy Tongue, will have the same effect as the traditional Eggbutt but is more fixed so this can help with turning & gives you a bit more control.
The Happy Tongue would be a good place to start if your horse is:
Shaking its head
Sticking its tongue out
Sucking its tongue back and as a result making an intermittent coughing noise
Trying to put its tongue over the bit
Going behind the bit to avoid the contact
Snatching the reins forward and down
With this in mind the Happy Tongue was created, it has a medium port creating space for the tongue, relieving pressure, allowing the horse to relax.
Hence, Happy Tongue is a solid mouth piece. It is curved and ported to give tongue relief.
BB Snaffle Loose Ring
The Bombers Snaffle Loose Ring is popular due to the curved mouthpiece and as a result, distributes pressure more evenly over tongue and bars. With the offset centre link it will reduce nutcraker action and pressure points on the tongue.
The Loose Ring allows for immediate release and relief from tongue and bar pressure which will reset the bit in the horses’ mouth.
